Hyundai Power Transformers breaks ground on its newest expansion

A $200 million expansion is coming to Hyundai Power Transformers in Montgomery, bringing 200 jobs with it.

Hyundai Power Transformers USA, a long-time manufacturer in Montgomery, is growing its operation even more.

The company is breaking ground on their newest $200 million expansion, bringing 200 jobs to the Capital City.
Before the shovels hit the dirt, guests at the event heard remarks from both company executives and city and state leaders, including Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt and Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce Ellen McNair.
The expansion not only increases the production of power transformers nationally, but also boosts Montgomery as a leading city for manufacturing.
“This is a monumental day simply because Hyundai Power Transformers U.S.A had options. They didn’t have to expand here in Alabama. They could’ve gone to other states but they chose Alabama because of the workforce. They chose Montgomery because of the local leadership, and they ultimately chose this area because of all of the community and the production support they can have access to,” said Bobby Jon Drinkard, assistant director for Alabama Industrial Development Training.
“This city and this state is known for building momentum when it comes to economic development with new and expanding industry, and today is evidence that when the right leaders, the right people, and the community comes together the only thing that can happen is greatness,” he said.
Since first opening in Montgomery in 2011, Hyundai Power Transformers has provided over 600 jobs to the surrounding communities.
The new facility is scheduled to open mid-2027.
