The mother of a young girl who was reported missing last month in Enterprise is now charged with her murder.

Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore has announced that Adrienne Reid has been charged with capital murder and abuse of a corpse. The charges come on what would have been her daughter Genesis Reid’s third birthday.

“Through the careful and methodical work of investigators, we have reached the heartbreaking and horrific conclusion that that her mother, her caretaker, the one that should have been there to keep her safe, willfully murdered Genesis and placed her in a duffle bag and discarded her in a dumpster,” Moore said.

As Action 8 News has reported, Adrienne Reid reported Genesis missing on February 16. She said her daughter had disappeared from a bed at an apartment on Apache Drive wearing Minnie Mouse pajamas. The next day, Adrienne Reid was arrested on a felony charge of filing a false report to police.

Moore said it became clear that Genesis hadn’t been seen since Christmas Day. He said detectives received video showing Adrienne Reid walking toward the apartment complex dumpster with a rolling duffle bag at approximately 11:30PM. Two days later, additional video captured Adrienne Reid returning to the dumpster area carrying toys and other items believed to belong to Genesis, Moore said

Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd, whose office has been tasked with managing the upcoming search operations at the Coffee County Landfill, explained the process of mapping out the landfill and determining where the remains of Genesis Reid may be located based on truck schedule and GPS monitors on landfill equipment. Byrd said investigators have been able to narrow down a search area of approximately 200 feet by 100 feet, 8 to 10 feet deep in refuse.

“I need the public to understand that this will not be an easy or fast search,” Byrd said, noting the search must be methodical and may take up to ten weeks or more. “The subject dumpster where the bag we are looking for was picked up on December 26. It was compacted in the truck that picked up it. It was taken to a distribution facility and compacted again. It was taken on another truck to the landfill where it was processed further with bulldozers and a compacting machine.”

Byrd added that a specialized team from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is assisting in finalizing the search plans.

Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox provided an update on the case, saying Adrienne Reid will have an initial appearance before District Judge Josh Wilson on the new felony charges later this week.

“The evidence shows that Adrienne Reid killed her daughter, literally threw her in the trash, and then engaged in a 53-day campaign of deceit, lies, manipulation, and destruction of evidence, before she finally reported her missing on February 16,” Tarbox said. “Her conduct speaks for itself, and I believe this preliminary decision to seek the death penalty conforms to our community’s beliefs about this case and our shared values about how we value and seek to protect the most innocent among us, our children.”

Enterprise Mayor William E. Cooper also addressed the tragedy and the community’s response, emphasizing faith, support, and the importance of justice.

“From the very start, our thoughts and hearts have been with Genesis, and we have lifted up this little girl in our prayers. Now it is time to see justice done for her and to bring some measure of peace and closure to everyone who has cared so deeply,” Cooper said.

Chief Moore also praised the dedication of investigators across multiple agencies.

“This investigation has involved approximately 8,000 combined working hours, with personnel often working 16 to 18 hours per day. Investigators have executed 37 search warrants, pursued 97 investigative leads within our agency alone, and processed more than five terabytes of digital and physical evidence, with that number continuing to grow. Leads have taken investigators across multiple states, including Illinois, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and throughout Alabama. At any given time, more than 75 law enforcement officers from various agencies were directly involved in this case.”

Moore ended the press conference by saying while nothing can undo this “senseless and heartbreaking loss” he takes comfort in his faith.

“I believe that I believe that Genesis’s earthly body is no longer what defines her, and that she is now in a place far greater than anything this world could offer, surrounded by a love and power beyond our understanding.”

He said scripture reminds us of the value of every child, and the words of Jesus give him peace in moments like this: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
