Troy police have charged the driver of an ATV with murder following a wreck that led to the death of one passenger and severe injuries to another.

Police say at around 11:30PM on Friday, March 6, they were called to the 2000 block of Pike County Road 1165. That’s were they found the ATV, which had overturned.

They say it was being driven by 44-year-old Robert Hollifield II of Smiths Station.

One passenger, 41-year-old Jared Heath McNeil of Taylor, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, 43-year-old Arthur John Lancaster of LaGrange, Georgia, was flown to a Montgomery hospital in critical condition.

Police say Hollifield was arrested and charged with DUI. Since then, his charges have been upgraded to one count of murder and one count of assault in the first degree.

Hollifield later surrendered and was processed at the Troy City Jail before making a $125,000 bond at the Pike County Jail.

This case remains under investigation by the Troy Police Department, the Pike County District Attorney’s Office, and the Pike County Coroner’s Office.
