WAKA-TV (CBS/ABC/CW/MeTV) in Montgomery, Alabama, is looking for a full-time Master Control Operator who can thrive in a fast-paced environment in a multi-channel Master Control room. This role is responsible for the overall on-air look of the television station through airing programming and scheduled station breaks. Working well under pressure is vital to assure optimal performance. It is high energy, high impact with no two days that are the same.
What You Will Do:
- Operate a multi-channel Master Control room, managing live events, syndicated shows and the automation system.
- Maintain seamless broadcasts by preparing, monitoring and adjusting playlists in real time.
- Execute precision switching for live news and sporting events.
- Ingest, record and prepare content for broadcast with a strong focus on accuracy and timing.
- Ensure proper routing of video sources and troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.
- Keep detailed logs and document on air discrepancies, timings, transmitter and EAS readings.
- Communicate clearly with other team members, especially during live broadcasts.
- Monitor strength, clarity and reliability of incoming and outgoing signals and adjusts equipment as necessary to maintain quality broadcasts.
- Report equipment problems and ensure that repairs are made and make emergency repairs to equipment when necessary and possible.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience in Master Control operations or broadcast environments is preferred, but not necessary if you’re a fast learner.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to juggle multiple feeds and priorities.
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Willingness to work any shift in a 24/7 operation, including weekends and holidays.
- Basic computer knowledge required.
- The ability to adapt, thrive and possibly learn other positions in Operations.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
