Montgomery police detectives testify in Ibraheem Yazeed capital murder trial

Two members of the Montgomery Police Department have taken the stand in the capital murder trial of Ibraheem Yazeed in Macon County.

On the stand today, one detective said he was the one who processed a pickup truck that prosecutors say was used to dispose of the body of 19-year-old Aniah Blanchard after she was killed in October of 2019.

Another detective said he photographed Blanchard’s SUV after it was found at a Montgomery apartment complex. He said when the area was canvassed, two condoms were discovered hundreds of feet away.

Also taking the stand today was a detective with the Auburn Police Department. Blanchard was last seen inside a Chevron gas station on South College Street before she disappeared. The detective said both Blanchard and Yazeed were at the gas station, then shortly afterward, her SUV was seen on video at the Murphy USA gas station near Walmart. At that location, Yazeed was seen getting out on the passenger side, and then re-entering after walking to the attendant’s station.

It is not known why Blanchard would have gone to a second gas station so soon after leaving the first, nor why she didn’t flee once Yazeed got out of the SUV.

Blanchard was from Homewood and was a student at Southern Union Community College. She was the stepdaughter of UFC fighter Walt Harris.

Yazeed faces three capital counts: Capital Murder during a kidnapping, Capital Murder during a robbery and Capital Murder involving a victim’s vehicle.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
