Cool, breezy Tuesday; Trending warmer, mainly dry through Friday

Tuesday morning was frigid compared to an average St. Patrick’s Day in central and south Alabama. Temperatures fell into the upper 20s in most locations. Montgomery dropped to 28°, which set a new March 17th record low temperature. The previous record was 29° from long ago in 1895. Tuesday remains mainly sunny, but cool and breezy with high temperatures in the low 50s, around 20° below normal for March 17th.

The sky becomes partly cloudy Tuesday night, but temperatures fall into the upper 20s to low 30s again. A Freeze warning includes all of central and south Alabama Tuesday night. Even though the calendar says mid-March and we associate that with warmer weather, be sure to bring pets and plants inside Tuesday night. If you have exposed pipes, leave faucets at a slight drip.

Wednesday looks partly to mostly sunny and a bit warmer, with highs in the low 60s for many, which is still around 10° below normal. However, temperatures trend even warmer through the end of the week. Temperatures warm into the low 70s Thursday, right at normal for the 19th of March. High temperatures approach 80° Friday, fitting for the first day of spring.
