Wetumpka man arrested in decades old sexual abuse case

Wetumpka police have arrested a man in connection to a sexual abuse case that is more than two decades old.

Maj. Josh Barfoot tells Action 8 News that 53-year-old Kennedy Trotter was taken into custody after the victim came forward to police after 20 years.

Maj. Barfoot says the victim shared a home with the suspect, but were not directly related to each other. The series of abuse occurred over several years while the victim was under the age of 12 and over the age of 12.

Police believe there is only one victim.

Trotter is charged with 1st degree rape, 2nd degree rape, 1st degree sodomy, 2nd degree sodomy, sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age and 2nd degree sexual abuse.

He is currently in the Elmore County Jail on a $756,000 bond.

Maj. Barfoot says Trotter is wearing a security guard uniform in his booking photo. They do not believe he is an APOSTC certified law enforcement officer.
