Pine Level holds grand opening ceremony for new baseball fields

PINE LEVEL, Ala. (WAKA) – New baseball fields have opened up in the town of Pine Level this evening. City officials held a ribbon cutting for the official opening of Liberty Fields at Pine Level Park.

Several speakers from the Autauga County Commission, Prattville Chamber of Commerce, and other local leaders talked about all the work that went into the planning and construction.

It was a project that cost over $2 million and took 15 years to complete.

“One of the issues our families had in years past was that their children may be playing ball in the two different surrounding communities. It was hard for mom and dad to split up and go watch one child play at 6 o’clock and the other child play at 7, they wanted to be at the same place and same fields, and now that can happen,” said Commission Chair of the Autauga County Commission, Jay Thompson.

“In the town of Pine Level, we’re so big on community and togetherness. We’ve had one ball field for probably 50 years, so just the fact that we doubled that with this park alone is a home-field advantage, it’s more tournaments, it’s the tax revenue that comes in for local businesses when we host a tournament, and they stop for gas or go in our stores, so this is significant in so many ways. The big thing is that it gives us a place that we can call our own,” said Zachary Bigley, Mayor of Pine Level.

After the ceremony, they held the very first pitch and games at the new ball fields.
