Man arrested for shooting at barbecue

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Montgomery police have made an arrest in a recent shooting.

According to court records, 49-year-old Anthony Brown, is charged with first degree assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and illegal possession of a handgun.

Court documents say Brown shot a male victim at close range with an unknown type of handgun, hitting him in the right upper chest.

The incident happened on April 11 at a barbecue at a home in the 3400 block of Fountain Circle.

Records say the victim was holding the barbecue for his friend, Brown. Both were drinking heavily and Brown called the victim a name.

After a disagreement, Brown got his gun of his truck and fired shots at the victim. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries.

According to court records, Brown was indicted and later convicted of manslaughter in 2013.

The incident on Fountain Circle was one of several violent incidences that happened this past weekend.

Between April 10 and April 12, officers responded to seven shootings that resulted in four deaths and three others injured.
