MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Ground was broken today for a new community center on Woodley Road, just outside of the bypass.

“This groundbreaking is a long time coming,” Montgomery County Commissioner Daniel Harris, Jr., said. “This facility is the first of its kind for Montgomery County inside the city limits, and we are excited about this project. A community center saved me in my youth, and I look forward to seeing the lives this facility will touch as families gather, young people grow, and our neighborhoods come together.”

The community center will have a full-size indoor basketball gymnasium, meeting spaces, classrooms, locker rooms, restrooms and even a storm shelter nearby.

“This is the first time that Montgomery County has a facility in Parks and Recreation inside of the city limits,” Harris said.
