MAX4Kids Foundation holds clay shoot to raise money for charities, scholarships

MONTGOMERY, Ala (WAKA Action 8) – Outdoors enthusiasts and gun lovers got the chance to help a local foundation raise money for a good cause Wednesday.

The 9th annual MAX4Kids Foundation held a clay shoot at the Lower Wetumpka Shotgun Sports Club.
Twenty teams of three to four people each competed by aiming and shooting at clay pigeons released into the air. Overall, more than 100 people participated in the event, which got started around 9:00A.M.
“We had a blast out there today and it’s fun to get to come do some fun outdoor activity to support a great cause and kinda dual purpose role,” says Tanner Hicks, who participated in the event. “We had a good time doing it and really enjoyed this opportunity that Max4Kids Foundation provides.”
“One of the things we truly believe is that there is way more good in the world than bad and this event is an example of that because we have community partners that have come as far away as Birmingham,” Anthony Williams, a Board Member for the Foundation. “I have a vendor who flew in from Dallas, Texas to participate in this event and support MAX Credit Union and the charities and our youth here.”
While the event is about having fun in the great outdoors and improving your shooting skills, it’s also about raising money for charities.
The clay shoot fundraiser helps raise money for local non profits, including Mercy House and the MAP Center, Tie & Doll, and Valiant Cross Academy school. It also raises money for deserving seniors heading to colleges and universities.
“The money that we come in: we’ve got committees that are led by our employees and people submit applications throughout the year,” says Mike Hart, the Executive Vice President/ COO of MAX Credit Union. “They will go through those and pick out needy individuals and provide scholarship money for college.”
Action 8 News was a proud sponsor of this event.
The MAX4Kids Foundation has donated more than $1.7 million dollars since its’ founding 2001.
