Two killed in Montgomery County crash

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – State troopers are investigating a crash in Montgomery County that claimed the lives of two people.

It happened around 5:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 85 near the 11 mile marker.

Troopers say 36-year-old Salvador Garcia-Barrera, of Montgomery, was fatally injured when the SUV he was driving collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by 67-year-old Ronald Engel, of Notasulga. Engel was also fatally injured in the crash.

Both Garcia-Barrera and Engel were pronounced dead on the scene.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are working to determine the cause of the crash.
