Alexander City police detective honored as Officer of the Year

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (WAKA) – A detective in East Alabama has been named the 2025 Alexander City Police Department Crimestoppers Officer of the Year.

With over 16 years in law enforcement, Brian Culligan started his career with the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office before joining Alexander City as a patrol officer.

Culligan later served as a State Trooper in the Marine Patrol Division before returning to Alexander City where he eventually became Team Leader of the Special Response Group.

Since joining the detective division in 2022, officials say Culligan has become a key contributor to the department’s 100% homicide arrest rate.

Culligan was presented with the honor at a recent Alexander City City Council meeting.
