ACTION 8 UPDATE: Details emerge in fatal head-on collision in Selma

SELMA, Ala. (WAKA) – More details have emerged about a fatal head-on collision that happened Tuesday afternoon in Selma.

The man killed in the crash has now been identified — as 47 year old Terrance Hunter of Selma.

Sheriff Mike Granthum says Hunter was fleeing from deputies at the time of the crash — after refusing to pull over during a routine traffic stop.

Granthum says Hunter was traveling west on Cahaba Road at a high rate of speed — when he crashed into oncoming traffic.

“He was attempting to pass vehicles and there happened to be a vehicle, a truck, coming his way. And he struck that vehicle head on, bounced off of it, went in the woods and burst into flames,” Granthum.

“It’s just a sad situation from a bad choice. And somebody to lose their life like that, it’s pretty tragic. It’s not only tragic for the family but for the officers that were involved, to have to see that, and have to witness something like that.”

Granthum says there were two people inside the truck that were hurt and taken to the hospital.

The case remains under investigation.
