Whitfield Regional Hospital hosts summer job shadowing program

Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis has expanded its job shadowing program for college students to include the summer.

Waka Whitfield0508 VoThe inaugural Summer Shadowing program was held at the hospital this week.

Students from the University of Alabama got to shadow healthcare professionals at the hospital — while also learning about — and living in the Demopolis community.

The summer program is designed to teach participants about providing healthcare in a rural setting.

“I think it’s important to have the component to have the component of what it’s like to actually live in a rural community,” said Whitfield Director of Patient Experience Ashley Coplin.

“Yes, it important that they’re learning about the hospital, absolutely. But also understanding the community it serves is equally as important.”

The summer shadowing program was funded through a grant from the University of Alabama.
