Officer-involved shooting in Greenville under investigation
GREENVILLE, Ala. (WAKA) – An officer-involved shooting that led to a man’s death is under investigation in Greenville.
The shooting happened just after 9PM last night on Gravel Hill Road in Greenville.
At the scene, police say they found 33- year-old Gray McNeil Vinson armed with a handgun. According to Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn, Vinson was asked to drop his weapon, but instead raised the gun up at the officers who then opened fire, killing him.
“The case has been turned over to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation, which will conduct an independent investigation of the incident,” Lovvorn told Action 8 News. “We ask that everyone continue to pray for all those involved and their families during this difficult time.”
It is standard procedure for the state to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
