ACTION 8 UPDATE: Two tornadoes confirmed in Marengo County

MARENGO COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – The National Weather Service office in Birmingham has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Marengo County in yesterday’s storms.

The tornadoes in Marengo County both hit after 10:30AM and were among four that affecting the state yesterday.

The stronger of the two tornadoes was an EF-1 that touched down around Sparks Road near Gallion, which is close to the Hale County line. It had estimated peak winds of 95MPH. It was on the ground for about 2 1/4 miles and had a path 150 yards wide at its peak.

The other tornado hit around Exmoor, near Sweet Water. It was an EF-0, with peak winds of 65MPH. It was on the ground for about a quarter-mile and was about 40 yards wide.

Minor property damage was reported with both of these tornadoes.

The other two tornadoes were north of Marengo County. A tornado touched down in Tuscaloosa County, near Vance, and another one hit Cullman County, which is north of Birmingham, near Holly Pond.
