Montgomery Public Schools assistant principals graduate from leadership training program

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Sixteen assistant principals in Montgomery Public Schools have graduated from the Lead Forward Leadership Academy.

Today, they were recognized for their achievements. The course was taught by Maximize Growth, LLC.

School system officials say they are growing their own leaders though this type of training.

Five sessions covered topics such as people development, self-awareness and problem-solving.

“The assistant principal’s job is probably changing because what’ve done this year, we’ve changed that job description to be more of an instructional leader, more than just a support system, so we really do want to make it so that these are our next-up instructional leaders,” Montgomery Public Schools Chief of Staff Barbara Lashley told Action 8 News.

The Lead Forward Leadership Academy for assistant principals reflects a strategic partnership that’s grounded in preparation over promotion, leadership growth over position and sustainability over short-term solutions, school officials said.
