GREENVILLE, Ala. (WAKA) – A busy rest area on I-65 will soon get a major facelift.

The Alabama Department of Transportation says it will replace the northbound rest area near Greenville with a larger, modernized facility.

Crews will demolish the current facility and build an updated one in the same location. The new facility will have additional parking, bathroom accommodations and family restrooms.

It will close on Monday, June 29 for construction to begin.

ALDOT says the recently updated southbound rest area will remain open.

The approximately $12 million project was awarded to S.A. Graham Company, Inc., out of Brundidge, who had the lowest bid that met the project requirements.

The project is expected to last up to two years.
