MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Alabama Supreme Court Associate Justice Greg Cook has been nominated to a federal judgeship by President Trump.

The president announced on the Truth Social platform that he is nominating Cook to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.

Cook, who is a native of Florence, was elected to the Alabama Supreme Court in 2022 after serving in private practice for more than 30 years. He is also a retired Captain in the U.S. Air Force.

“The people of the Great State of Alabama are in good hands with Greg on the Federal Bench,” President Trump posted.

Cook’s nomination will have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. When that happens, Gov. Kay Ivey will name a new justice to the Alabama Supreme Court.

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) posted this statement on Cook’s nomination:

“Congratulations to Greg Cook on his nomination to serve as a federal district judge for the Northern District of Alabama. President Trump selected a highly-qualified, well-respected Alabamian who brings years of experience to the federal bench. This is an incredible pick, and I look forward to his confirmation.”
