Firefighters in Lee County battle house fire for hours
LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – It took firefighters from several agencies hours to put out a fire in Lee County.
The Salem Volunteer Fire Department says the structure fire was reported just before 4:30PM in the 200 block of Lee County Road 705. Crews from the Beauregard Volunteer Fire Department, Smiths Station Fire Protection District and Lee County, Alabama Emergency Management Agency were brought in to help.
In addition, deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office helped with crowd and traffic control. East Alabama EMS was on scene to provide medical aid.
They say the temperature was 98 degrees and the humidity was over 60% when they were fighting the fire, which was finally put out around 8PM last night, using 13,000 gallons of water.
One firefighter was treated for heat-related illness.
