Inner tube rider injured after being struck by boat propeller on Lake Martin

LAKE MARTIN, Ala. (WAKA) – A man riding an inner tube on Lake Martin has been injured after being struck by a boat’s propeller.

Alabama Marine Police say at around 4:45PM on Saturday, July 4, 25-year-old Stewart Holmes, who is from North Carolina, was struck by the propeller on a pontoon boat. Investigators say 58-year-old Louie Holmes of Webster, Florida, was operating the boat.

They say Holmes had been towed on the inner tube, but it became disconnected and while he was being taken out of the water, he was struck by the propeller.

Holmes was taken to University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred near Big Kowaliga Creek in Tallapoosa County.
