ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A bear has been found east of Wetumpka in Elmore County.

Sheriff Bill Franklin says the bear was seen yesterday afternoon near the intersection of Alabama Highway 14 and Firetower Road.

He says the mid-size bear had been hit by a vehicle. The driver wasn’t hurt, but the bear suffered significant injuries.

Franklin says his office contacted wildlife experts who had to put the bear down.

This isn’t the first bear sighting in Alabama this summer. As Action 8 News has reported, there have been sightings in Alexander City and in Talladega in recent weeks.
