Still hot, humid, but rain chances rise this weekend, early next week

Temperatures soared into the low to mid 90s Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, peak heat index values were near or over 100° in many locations. Showers and storms formed Friday afternoon, cooling some locations down. Some rain lingers into Friday evening, but fades away Friday night. The sky remains partly cloudy overnight with lows in the low to mid 70s.

Chances for rain remain elevated this weekend. However, Saturday and Sunday still look like hot and humid days, with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s and peak heat index values near or over 100°. Rain coverage looks scattered Saturday. Numerous showers and storms form Sunday afternoon/evening. A few storms may become severe Sunday, capable of damaging wind gusts. The storm prediction center places a marginal (level 1/5) severe risk across our area Sunday.
