17-year-old drowns at Jackson Lake in Millbrook

MILLBROOK, Ala. (WAKA) – Millbrook police say a teenager has died after an accidental drowning on Jackson Lake.

Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson tells Action 8 News that around 11:14 a.m. Saturday, his officers and firefighters responded to a possible drowning.

Once they arrived, officers were told that several people were swimming when a 17-year-old male, who had been standing in chest deep water, stepped off a drop off and never surfaced.

The Millbrook Fire Department deployed dive team personnel, who after a search of the immediate area, were able to locate the victim’s body. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Witnesses stated that the victim did not know how to swim.

Police do not suspect foul play at this time.
