Students celebrate graduation from Montgomery Police Department’s Junior Police Academy

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Students enrolled in the Montgomery Police Department’s Junior Police Academy are celebrating their graduation.

At a ceremony yesterday, 19 students were honored for spending a week in this hands-on program to learn about crime investigations and criminal trials. The students are in the fifth and sixth grade.

“I hope that this is a beginning for them that will lead many of them to think about what they would like to do in being leaders and responsible citizens,” Cathy Wright, a grandmother, said.

“I realize that they were just hard on us because they care a lot and they want us to make it in life and be a successful man and woman,” student Micah Moore said.

“What I want to say to the officers is thank you for giving me this chance and this opportunity. It was a really great opportunity for me and the police academy was very fun and I want to say thank you to all of the officers,” student Bra’nyiah Gray said.

Each student received a certificate recognizing them for completing the program.

The Junior Police Academy was held at the Cleveland Avenue YMCA.
