Tropical Storm Bertha stays to our south, typical July weather for us
Some clouds filled the sky Tuesday morning, but our area was mainly dry through midday. However, isolated to widely scattered showers and storms appear likely Tuesday afternoon, as some of the tropical-type rain bands on the north side of Bertha move into south Alabama. Otherwise, the sky remains partly to mostly cloudy with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s. Tuesday night trends drier with a partly cloudy sky and lows in the low to mid 70s.
As of 10AM Tuesday 7/21/26, Bertha was a tropical storm with max sustained winds near 60 mph. It was still only very slowly moving to the north-northwest at 3 mph. Ultimately it track closer to due west over the next 24-48 hours. The center of the storm tracks near the northwest Florida and Alabama coast. Those areas are under Tropical storm warnings. Tropical storm force wind gusts (40 mph+), heavy rain, and 2-4 feet of storm surge appear possible there.
Meanwhile, the weather in central and south Alabama looks fairly normal for July, with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s and peak heat indices near or above 100° for the rest of the week. Isolated to widely scattered showers and storms on the outer periphery of Bertha move across our area Wednesday. Bertha should be near the Louisiana coast Thursday, but rain coverage looks a touch higher. Showers/storms become at least widely scattered Friday.
Our weekend weather looks similar, with high temperatures mainly in the low 90s. At least widely scattered afternoon/evening showers/storms form Saturday and Sunday. Rain coverage looks more isolated again next week, which may result in high temperatures in the mid 90s at least Monday and Tuesday. Rain coverage remains limited for the latter half of the week with high temperatures at least in the low 90s.
