Montgomery Public Schools holds convocation to prepare for new school year
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Montgomery Public Schools has held its 2026 convocation to prepare for the new school year.
More than 3,000 teachers and school system employees were packed inside the Joe L. Reed Dunn-Oliver Acadome at Alabama State University today for the event.
They shared a morning of inspiration, recognition and leadership as they prepare to welcome students back for a new school year on Monday, August 10.
This year’s convocation’s theme was “The next play… leading through all 4 quarters.”
The program featured remarks from School Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd, employee spotlights and motivational videos.
“We don’t want them to just start off strong with Monday, we want them to continue throughout the year motivated, dedicated, committed to the success of each and every one of our students,” Rosanna Brewton, the director of communications for Montgomery Public Schools, told Action 8 News.
