Selma and Dallas Co. students head back to school

Summer vacation is officially over for school children in Dallas County.

Students in the Selma City — and Dallas County school districts went back to school today.

The first day of school is always filled with excitement and optimism about the start of a new school year.

Selma City School Superintendent Dr. David Scott spent the first day of school — making the rounds around the school district.

“I’m getting around to all the schools and just making sure that they have everything they need to have a great successful end of the first day,” said Scott.

“Our boys and girls are coming in getting settled. Meeting their teachers. Meeting friends they hadn’t seen in some time. So, so far, so good. So, a pretty good day, so far.”

Dallas Co. School Superintendent Dr. Corey Jones also spent the day greeting students and staff — and gearing up for a successful school year.

“This is a very momentous occasion for us — we’re very enthused to have our students back in the building,” said Jones.

“We’re focusing on educating the whole child. We’re trying to do everything to improve our school district so that our students will enjoy their time here.”

Improving student achievement this year — is a top priority — of both school districts.
