What The Tech App of the Day: Seller
BY JAMEY TUCKER, Consume Tech Reporter
If you regularly sell things on Facebook Marketplace, Facebook now has a separate app designed just for you.
Meta has launched Seller, a Facebook app, a new standalone app aimed at people who use Marketplace to sell everything from furniture and electronics to clothing and vehicles.
Facebook Marketplace is turning 10 years old, and Meta says 430 million items are listed on Marketplace every month worldwide. The company also says one in three young adults who use Facebook in the United States visits Marketplace every day.
The new Seller app is designed to make managing those listings easier, particularly for people who sell multiple items or use Marketplace as a side hustle.
One of its biggest features uses Meta AI to help create a listing.
Upload a photo of something you want to sell and the app can suggest a title, description, category and even a price. You can make changes before publishing the listing to Marketplace. Sellers can also create multiple listings at once.
The app also gives sellers a separate inbox for conversations with potential buyers. Messages are organized according to the item being sold, which could make it easier to keep track of several listings at the same time.
Seller also includes tools for managing inventory. Users can edit or relist items and see information about how their listings are performing, including views, clicks, messages and sold items.
You do not have to start over if you already sell on Marketplace. Seller connects to your existing Facebook account. Current listings, messages, ratings and selling history carry over, and listings created in Seller automatically appear on Facebook Marketplace.
The important thing to know is that Seller is not a separate Marketplace app for shoppers. Buyers still browse and purchase through Facebook Marketplace. Seller is specifically designed for the person on the other side of the transaction.
The Seller app is free and currently available in the United States for iPhone users 18 and older. Meta says it is also testing an Android version.
For someone who occasionally sells an old chair or television, the regular Facebook app may still be all they need. But for frequent Marketplace sellers, the new app puts most of the work involved in listing, communicating with buyers and tracking sales into one place.
