Autauga County students start the new school year
AUTAUGA COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA Action 8) – Students in Autauga County kicked off a brand new school year Tuesday.
School leaders welcomed more than 1,800 students at Prattville High School.
Parents eagerly dropped their kids off on the first day.
“Oh, the first day is super important it’s important to get started strong,” says parent Kevin Vest. “It’s important to, you know, make good choices get started good on your grades and be the life of Jesus.”
“I’m telling her to have a great first and last day she’s a senior this year,” says parent Jenny Day.
Dr. Daniel Farris, the high school principal, greeted students at the door.
He addressed the do’s and don’ts regarding their cell phones and chrome tablets.
Security checkpoints have been set up at the entrance, where book bags and other material were checked to make sure students and staff were safe and to make sure banned devices were not being allowed in.
“Safety is first priority,” says Dr. Farris. “We make sure all the students are safe when they come into our school beyond that customer service approach with our students and our families; make sure they’re taken care of they know where to go we’ve got plenty of time today to help everyone figure everything out; and make sure we do the small things right. There’s a lot of small things to take care of today, but do the small things right if we do that the big things are gonna take care of themselves.”
Dr. Farris said he couldn’t wait to get on the intercom to talk to the students about the expectations set the expectations for the day. In his years as principal, Dr. Farris has learned many lessons, but one of the most important is to always be prepared.
Crenshaw County Schools, Tallassee City Schools, Valiant Cross Academy, Fort Dale Academy, and Prattville Christian Academy also started back Tuesday.
