Church gives back to local non-profit in more ways than one
A church is giving back to a local non-profit in more ways than one.
The Gift of Life Foundation is receiving an expansion grant donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The expansion will help more first-time mothers receive nurse-led support during pregnancy and their child’s early years to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
On top of the donation, the church members also volunteered at the Gift of Life Foundation’s storage facility, where they organized storage areas and stocked donations.
“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints focuses on any organization that can help women, infants, families and anything that can relieve the suffering of populations that may be underserved. We seek to do that to do as our savior Jesus Christ taught, to lift humanity from circumstances where they may be suffering and try to help them to get to a better place,” John Rawls, the regional leader of the church told Action 8 News.
“There’s often times that there’s things that we need to do when we receive donations from others, and sometimes it just gets plopped down in the moment, and we need to figure out how do we store these items? Where do we put these items? Most of our staff, our field staff, are in the community all the time. So to have the church here today, providing the support with volunteers and helping us get organized so we can better serve our community efficiently and effectively, we love it,” Regina Traylor, the executive director of the Gift of Life Foundation, said.
The grant expansion will help the Gift of Life Foundation serve families in Butler, Crenshaw, Dallas, Lowndes, Tallapoosa and Coosa counties.
