Man sentenced in deadly 2021 shooting in Troy

PIKE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A man convicted in a 2021 deadly shooting in Troy will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Pike County District Attorney James Tarbox says Xavier Edwards was convicted in May for the murder of Andre Thompson on October 23, 2021.

Testimony and evidence were presented including evidence of Defendant Edwards multiple prior felonies, to include convictions on multiple shooting related charges.

Following the presentation, Judge Jeff Kelley sentenced Defendant Edwards to Life Without the Possibility of Parole for Murder and Thirty Years for Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm. These sentences were ordered to run consecutive with each other.

District Attorney James Tarbox said, “Our office is grateful for this sentence and believe it represents the fact that this Defendant has had multiple chances to conform his conduct to our community standards and instead has resorted to a life of violence. Thankfully this sentence ensures that Defendant Edwards will never harm a citizen of Pike County again.”

Police say at about 1:37AM that morning, they were called to Goldmine Entertainment, in the 200 block of U.S. Highway 231, on a report of a man shot.

When they arrived, they learned the victim had been taken to Troy Regional Medical Center in a personal car.

Thompson later died at the hospital from his injuries.
