Elmore County EMA opening cooling stations during Monday’s extreme heat

ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA Action 8) – The Elmore County Emergency Management Agency is opening up cooling stations for residents on Monday in anticipation of an extreme heat warning.

The agency says while these are not long-term shelters, the centers will allow people to cool for a short time. Residents who need to use one is encouraged to bring any necessary items, like food and water. All pets should be in a crate.

The cooling stations are:

In Wetumpka:

  • Elmore County Historic Courthouse, 100 E. Commerce St., Wetumpka, AL OPEN from 8 am – 4:30 pm
  • First Presbyterian Church, 100 West Bridge Street, Wetumpka, AL 36092, OPEN 24 hours a day

In Tallassee:

  • Tallassee City Hall, 3 Freeman Avenue, Tallassee, AL 36078, OPEN from 8 am – 4:30 pm
  • Tallassee Police Department, 100 N. Ann Street, Tallassee, AL 36078, OPEN from 8 am – 4:30 pm

In Millbrook:

  • Millbrook Senior Center, 3560 Grandview Rd Millbrook, AL 36054, OPEN from 8 am – 4:30 pm
  • Millbrook First Methodist Church, 3350 Edgewood Road, Millbrook, 36054, OPEN from 11 am – 6 pm
  • Millbrook Baptist Church, 3431 Browns Road, Millbrook, AL 36054, OPEN from 9 am – 3 pm

In Eclectic:
