Pike Road Schools announces expansion to intermediate school campus
PIKE ROAD, Ala. (WAKA) – The rapidly-growing Pike Road school system has announced another expansion to serve its students.
A new addition is planned to the historic intermediate school campus, located at the corner of Pike Road and Flinn Road. The addition will add 35 classrooms so that the school can accommodate 1,100 students, up from the current 700.
The new addition won’t be connected to the current building but will run along Flinn Road to the side.
Renovations were just completed this summer on the intermediate building by adding classrooms and a cafeteria into the old gymnasium. Construction on a new gym is already underway.
“The intermediate school may have gotten less love than any of the others simply because we’ve had a project at each of the schools, but we’re very excited,” Pike Road School Superintendent Dr. Jason Goodwin said. “I know our teachers, they seem to be very excited, as well as the administration about the coming renovations and additions, although, it will impact some things. We’re still working on traffic patterns and we hope to have those pieces in conjunction with the previous traffic study and improve traffic before the construction actually starts.”
Sixth grade students will be moved to the Georgia Washington campus after Christmas break so that construction can start. That will be when high school students on the Georgia Washington campus move to their new 73-acre campus on Wallahatchie Road.
