Heat advisory continues; A low severe storm risk Thursday, Friday

A HEAT ADVISORY continues through 9PM Thursday for central Alabama, and was extended through 8PM Friday for southwest Alabama. This means that heat index values may climb above 105° Thursday and Friday afternoon. If you are outside for a long time during the afternoon Thursday or Friday, try to take more frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned places, and stay hydrated to avoid heat-related illness.

Widely scattered showers and storms may provide heat relief Thursday afternoon and evening. A few storms may become severe, capable of damaging wind gusts. A MARGINAL (level 1/5) severe risk covers all of our area Thursday. Some locations remain dry during the afternoon, where high temperatures range from the mid to upper 90s. Our area trends mainly dry Thursday night, while the sky becomes partly cloudy with lows in the low to mid 70s.
