The Alabama Democratic Party Contest Committee holds a second hearing to settle a controversial Wilcox Co. Commission race.

The committee ruled that incumbent District 3 Commissioner Jeff Saulsberry be certified the winner at a hearing in Montgomery on Friday.

Waka Wcdemrace0825 VoAnd it affirmed that decision after a second hearing yesterday.

Saulsberry won the primary election but local party officials decertified the results — and certified his opponent Charilyn McConnico instead — after several videos surfaced accusing Saulsberry of buying votes.

Saulsberry denied the allegation.

Neither local party officials — nor McConnico — attended the Friday hearing.

Both were in attendance and presented evidence at the second hearing Monday.

“They had the opportunity to bring all those people that she had to make videos, but not one of them come and support the allegations,” said Saulsberry.

“And I hope that this is the end of this. I hope this, I hope this resolve this because I need to be back in Wilcox County in my district and in the county doing the work of the people.”

The democratic nominee in the District 3 race has no republican opposition in the general election in November.
