Heart of Alabama Food Bank launches “Breakfast Stack Challenge”
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) –Â Hunger is a sad part of life for too many people in our area, but there’s a new way you can help curb hunger, especially as people start their day.
The Heart of Alabama Food Bank is launching what it calls a “Breakfast Stack Challenge.” It is urging businesses, schools and other groups to collect breakfast foods.
But there’s a twist.
Groups will compete to stack their food donations. These groups will compete for trophies. and a gift card from Piggly Wiggly Food For Less.
Organizers say there’s a purpose behind all of this fun.
“One of the reasons why we do this is so that we give the community an opportunity to participate, because that is really what it takes to take care of hunger in our community. We take care of 35 of the 67 counties, and right now, we’re looking at probably 1 in 5 adults that are in need of food and around 1 in 4 children. So, there’s a lot of need out there,” Heart of Alabama Food Bank CEO John Lucas told Action 8 News.
All of us at Action 8 are doing our part. We have created a breakfast stack using some of the donations of our employees.
This is a fun event that’s open to your group!
Click here for instructions, rules and to fill out the registration form. Include a photo of your breakfast stack for judging.
You can enter between now at September 13. Then the voting will start on the best breakfast stack towers through September 27.
Good luck!
