Montgomery police preparing for Red Tails Classic while releasing new crime statistics
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys has held his regular media briefing, releasing the city’s latest crime statistics and announcing plans for the upcoming Red Tails Classic.
Speaking about the latest crime statistics, Graboys said over the past 30 days, there have been 58 felony arrests involving 81 felony offenses. That number includes six juveniles charged as adults, six people charged with murder or capital murder, seven charged with attempted murder or serious assault, eight burglary arrests and six robbery arrests.
Year to date, he says violent crime is down 13% and property crime is down 24%.
The city will play host to the Red Tails Classic college football game on Sunday, featuring Tuskegee vs. West Alabama at Cramton Bowl. Graboys says police will be ready to make this a safe and fun gameday experience as well as for all games this season.
“We’re going to have all of our traffic units out for these games and we’re going to have, of course, police protection and response at every game that we are dealing with. We have a plan in place directly related to Cramton Bowl that involves not only making sure that pedestrians can safely walk to the stadium, but also promotes the fact that we have a safe traffic pattern around the stadium as well as having officers inside the stadium to also direct and watch and be there for the guests who are coming to watch the games because we want to make sure that all the guests have a safe and pleasant time at these games.”
The game will be televised on ESPN2 with kickoff at 7PM.
