Two Lowndes County volunteer fire departments surprised with grants
LOWNDES COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A Montgomery-area organization dedicated to helping nonprofits and Cloverleaf Project Red Clay surprised two Lowndes County volunteer fire departments with grants.
Officials from the Central Alabama Community Foundation were on hand Thursday as they presented a $5,426 check to the Hicks Hill/Black Belt Volunteer Fire Department and a $10,860 check to the Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department.
The money is made possible from a $1 million grant dedicated to supporting programs, organizations, and infrastructure that directly serve Lowndes County.
Hicks Hill/Black Belt VFD officials say they plan to use the money to purchase two complete sets of turnout gear suits, including jackets, pants, protective hoods, helmets and gloves.
Calhoun VFD officials say they will use their money to purchase three new Self-Containing Breathing Apparatus air packs to ensure firefighter safety during active calls.
Central Alabama Community Foundation says they have now given out $141,286 in total funding in Lowndes County from the Cloverleaf Project Red Clay Grant Fund.
