Police saturate entertainment district in downtown Selma

The Selma Police Department and the Dallas Co. Sheriff’s Office conducted a joint saturation detail in downtown Selma over the weekend.

The detail was conducted in the city’s entertainment district — in response to a shooting incident that happened the previous weekend.

“When you have 300 and something shots that were fired, one person injured, you’ve gotta do something. Hundreds of people go down there on the weekend, ” said Granthum.

Over a dozen law enforcement officers issued over 40 citations — and confiscated four guns Saturday night on Alabama Avenue.

Two arrests were made over a four-hour period.

Davion Edwards of Selma is charged with Possession of Marijuana 1st. Edwards is free tonight — after posting a $10,000 dollar bond.

The second suspect has not been named. He’s recovering in the hospital — after crashing his car — after leading police on a car chase through the city.

“Got up to speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour, all the way through Earl Goodwin Parkway to Highland Avenue to the Bypass where he lost control and he ended up flipping his car,” Granthum said.

“This subject survived. But he is in the hospital. By all indications, he is doing well. But as soon as he’s released, he will be arrested.”
