ST. LOUIS, Mo. (WAKA) – Tuskegee native and legendary Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Lionel Richie is in ICU at a hospital in St. Louis, suffering from possible dehydration.

According to a report from TMZ, Richie checked himself into a hospital after a performance Saturday night for tests. The report says it’s hoped that Richie will be released tomorrow.

TMZ says witnesses told them Richie appeared to be struggling a bit toward the end of the show, asking his team to bring him a chair while performing his final song, “All Night Long,” so he could sit down.

Richie is 77 years old and has a vast music career, beginning with The Commodores in the 1970s before launching his solo career.

In 2023, Action 8 News caught up with Richie as he returned to Tuskegee to shoot clips for the hit ABC show “American Idol.”

We were also there in 2024, when Richie helped open Hello Park.
