Crawford, Sankey advance to runoff in Montgomery City Council District 3 race
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Residents in Montgomery’s District 3 are one step closer to having a new representative.
Voters headed to the polls Tuesday after the seat became open when city council member Marche Johnson was removed earlier this year because city officials determined that she no longer lived in District 3. The other eight council members voted unanimously in June to remove her from her seat.
Here are the numbers from Tuesday’s election:
| Montgomery City Council District 3 | Votes Received |
|---|---|
| Marion Ackley | 3 |
| Mark Bailey | 62 |
| Johnny Bannister | 3 |
| LaPawn Carter, Jr. | 35 |
| Gregory Crawford | 280 |
| Kevin Elkins | 10 |
| Justin Hampton | 119 |
| Jose Harris | 64 |
| Steven Lambert | 86 |
| West Marcus | 8 |
| Montaski McCoy | 7 |
| De'Anthony Powell | 19 |
| Johnnie Chambers Sankey | 178 |
| Bibby Leon Simmons | 12 |
| Michelle Summers | 102 |
Since none of the candidates got above the 50% threshold, Crawford and Sankey will advance to the runoff.
The runoff is scheduled for October 13.
