Montgomery Police Department looking for new officers at Recruit 50 event

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Montgomery Police Department is holding a Recruit 50 signing day event, hoping to attract 50 people to its next police academy class.

Today, the department set up in front of City Hall, hoping to get 50 people to sign up for the December 4 Police Academy. Fifty people is what the state allows a department to have in an academy class.

“Building a strong police force is a shared responsibility, and together we can continue moving Montgomery forward,” Mayor Steven Reed said. “Montgomery is rising and today’s Recruit 50 Signing Day is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together.”

The department is offering a $15,000 signing bonus.
