Labor Day celebrated with hot dog eating contest in Millbrook

MILLBROOK, Ala. (WAKA) – Labor Day has been celebrated with a hot dog eating contest at 17 Springs in Millbrook.
The All-American Bash 250 once again featured the Uncle Bob’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. This is the second year for the event.
Nine contestants had 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs as possible.
“It’s just a great Labor Day weekend event,” organizer Robert Harmon told Action 8 News. “We do ours every Labor Day. We’re looking to getting this thing on a syndicated program somewhere like a Netflix or Amazon Prime or something, and make it bigger and better, and pay more money and bring the pros in.”
Last year’s winner was JD Miller of Prattville, who ate 13 1/2 hot dogs.
This year’s winner tripled that, eating 43 hot dogs. He was Scott Watkins of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.
“What brought me was, just the other day I saw this on Instagram, I saw the big excitement behind the event, and I thought it would be really cool to come down here,” Watkins said. “It took me a long time to get down here, but it was well worth it. The key is I received lots of practice. I’ve got too much practice behind my belt, but yeah, it’s just consistency, you know, I’ve been doing eating like this for about seven years, and I continually do it every week.”
For those efforts, he won $1,333 and this year’s Belt For the 2026 Uncle Bob’s Hot Dog eating contest.
To add to the fun this year, there was also a sweet tea chugging contest.
Canned good and cash donations were accepted to help the Elmore County Food Pantry.
