LBW Community College and Regional Medical Center help bring Suicide Prevention Awareness

Two organizations in Greenville are teaming up to shine a light in the darkness of suicide prevention.

September is National Suicide prevention month and although suicide is sometimes a subject often avoided by many LBW and Regional Medical Center are saying the quiet reflections of suicide out loud. The two organizations held the Light the Night for Hope event to give families a safe space to learn, grow and most importantly  remember those who lost their lives to the tragedy of suicide.

Andrea Mills who lost her daughter Lexi to suicide spoke to families about Lexi’s life and her own journey to find answers.

In what was seemingly a split second decision Lexi took her own life. That decision birthed the Love Like Lexi Project which aims to prevent further tragedies.

The project educates families about the dangers of suicidal thoughts. Mental illness plaguing young minds can often go undetected but carry significant effects as the importance and impact of receiving help when experiencing suicidal thoughts.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Health quote “one young person dies from suicide every two hours.”
