Troy University unveils program aimed at strengthening relationships between students, local industries

TROY, Ala. (WAKA) – Troy University is launching a new program aimed at strengthening the relationships between the college and businesses throughout the region.
Troy University’s Sorrell School of Business unveiled the Sorrell Corporate Partnership Program at a ribbon cutting Tuesday. The program provides students with greater access to business leaders and career opportunities within a one hour radius of Troy.
Students will be able to learn directly from business leaders in the community, with the goal of providing full time jobs to students directly after graduation.
Leaders say the partnership is beneficial for both companies and students because each business chooses their level of involvement and each student has the freedom to learn more about companies that they may want to intern or work for.
“We all have been a freshman in college at one point in time,” says Steve Grice, the interim dean for Sorrell College of Business. “And it is very exciting that first day. And what happens after that first day and that first semester is very important.. We feel that one of the things that will help us a lot is if we engage with the students. Not only the faculty engages with the students, but also getting our students engaged with corporate partners that will potentially be their employers, so they feel a sense of belonging on campus.”
Student who participate will get a 10% reduction in tuition.
