Dr. Jack Hawkins hosts final Chancellor’s Golf Tournament before retirement
PRATTVILLE, Ala. (WAKA) –Â It’s a bittersweet time for many at Troy University as their beloved Chancellor, Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., played for the last time in the 26th Annual Chancellor’s Golf Tournament.
More than 40 teams gathered at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail course in Prattville to compete today. For 26 years, funds from the tournament have supported faith-based programs for students and athletes at the university.
The tournament was started Hawkins, who has been the chancellor at Troy University since 1989. It was announced last month that he will be retiring by June 30, 2027.
“I’m excited for Troy University. I’m excited about the future,” Hawkins told Action 8 News. “I’m excited about the work we’ve been able to do to add value to the degree. Working with wonderful people for students. So, I think I’m excited about the future. It’s kind of bittersweet, you know, you are proud of where you’ve been but you also know that good things lie ahead too.”
During Hawkins time as chancellor, more than $400 million has been invested in capital improvements across Troy’s campuses, including new academic buildings.
