Man sentenced in deaths of the “Voice of Auburn Tigers” and his wife is re-arrested

AUBURN, Ala. (WAKA) – The man who was sentenced in the deaths of Auburn University sports announcer Rod Bramblett and his wife has been re-arrested.

23-year-old Johnston Taylor has been arrested on a parole violation and is in the Lee County Jail.

He was sentenced in the deaths of Bramblett and his wife Paula. Court records showed Taylor was speeding on the night of May 25, 2019, when he slammed into the back of the Brambletts’ SUV. The wreck happened at the intersection of Shug Jordan Parkway and West Samford Avenue in Auburn.

Taylor, who was 16 years old at the time, was given youthful offender status, so the details of his sentenced were never announced.

Since that time, prosecutors say Taylor violated his parole and tested positive for marijuana. In 2023, he pleaded guilty to a drug-test related charge. That was after Auburn police arrested him on charges of child pornography possession.
