Grandview YMCA to host Party in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
MILLBROOK, Ala. (WAKA) — The Grandview Family YMCA will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its Party in Pink event Saturday, Oct. 3, honoring breast cancer survivors and raising awareness about the disease.
The event will feature Zumba classes, cooking demonstrations and giveaways. Families and people of all ages are encouraged to attend and wear pink in support of those affected by breast cancer.
The event is part of the national Let’s Beat Breast Cancer campaign led by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a health advocacy nonprofit representing 17,000 doctors. The campaign promotes awareness of strategies that may help prevent breast cancer.
Thousands of breast cancer survivors, health care professionals and community organizers are participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month events across the country and internationally to promote breast cancer prevention.
Grandview YMCA Wellness Director Lisa Hoffman and PCRM Food for Life Instructor Carolyn Strickland recently spoke with Action 8’s Estee Morrison about the event and the importance of breast cancer prevention.
Registration is not required. The Party in Pink will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grandview Family YMCA, 4700 Camp Grandview Road, in Millbrook.
